Did you know the Island Galleries are hosting a monthly art event the Second Saturday of each month? Earth Day Bicycle Ride to Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge

Join Team Camden Cycling on an Earth Day Bicyle Ride to Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge on April 18, 2009 - Ride starts at 9am.

Meet at the Okefenokee Education Research Center, located off Hwy 40 East and 3rd Street in downtown Folkston (next to the Charlton County Courthouse). Bike route is approximately 4 miles from Folkston to the refuge and back.

Participants may bring lunch, dine at Okefenokee Adventures next to the refuge Visitor Center, or choose from a variety of local restaurants in downtown Folkston.

5th Annual Katie Ride-for-Life on Amelia Island - April 18, 2009

A Premier Cycling Event on Amelia Island presented by the Mayo Clinic Transplant Center on April 18, 2009.

Help Eliminate Organ Donation Waiting Lists

The Katie Caples Foundation was started in 1998 by the family of Katie Caples, a young high school student from Jacksonville who became an organ and tissue donor after not surviving the trauma of an automobile accident.
The Katie Ride is a cycling event in which novices to advanced riders may participate to raise awareness of the need for all of us to make an organ donation commitment. Riders also raise funds for a unique organ donor education program at the high school level.


There are over 94,000 Americans currently on the national organ transplant waiting list. Over 3,000 are listed at transplant centers right here in Florida. Any one of us could start a new day only to find that we been diagnosed with an illness in which our only lifeline is an organ transplant. Every 13 minutes a new name is added to the waiting list and every 90 minutes someone dies for lack of a donor organ.
The Katie Ride for Life is a cycling event in which novices to serious riders may participate to raise funds to provide organ donor education and increase donor commitment. It is a great opportunity to make a difference.
The Katie Ride For Life will raise funds to increase awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donation and encourage Floridians to make a positive decision about donation.

Why We Ride

"The decision to become an organ and tissue donor is very important," says Kathleen Giery of LifeQuest Organ Recovery Services, the local organ donor program for northern Florida. We hope that through this event, we can not only provide donor education to the community, but also raise funds for future donor education campaigns."
