Updates on our Local Sea Turtles

Courtesy of Sandra Baker-Hinton, Amelia SanJon Gallery

*Nest excavation schedule. I am sorry to report that although I am sure there are some there have been
no postings on the Amelia Island Sea Turtle Watch's website in at least a week and I have not received
any word from any of my sources there. So all I have to report is Ft. Clinch

*Fort Clinch State Park Saturday Morning:

Nest 15 will be excavated at 7:45am in the park. The nest is located on the Ocean side just South of the Beach Access Boardwalk.
Immediately afterward (as long as it takes to drive up there) will be nest 18 which surprised us by hatching early. It is located just East of the Fort itself. Access by going into the dirt parking lot just before you get into the main parking lot at the Fort.

This means that we will only have nests around and west of the pier and on the ocean front left to hatch, but we do have at least 8 left to go. 16 is overdue and of concern since it was pilled up with about a foot of new sand after that last high water with Bill. 10 and 11 were probably never nests so we will excavate them over the weekend sometime just to see. Those two turtles crawled all over each other one night and we thought that they had layed but nothing seems to have happened so at 70 days we will just dig in to it to find out.
